Sarah Michelle Gellar and Kunal Nayyar on the Big Bang Theory final

Last night, Channel 9 aired the series finale of The Big Bang Theory.

I've watched Big Bang since it started 12 years ago. I was so sure that it was a show I would love, and I was sure it was a show that would be cancelled very quickly.

2008 was a strange year for television. There was a Writer’s strike and very few shows survived the television season (RIP Pushing Daisies), but surprisingly Big Bang was a show that survived when many shows didn’t.

I also remember exactly where I was when Nine played the pilot. Off the back of [at the time] an extraordinarily sucessful run of Two and a Half Men. I really think it’s crazy that it’s been 12 years. People are divisive about the finale. I absolutely loved it, especially with the surprise appearance of Sarah Michelle Gellar. I thought the finale was beautiful, simple and respected the legacy of the show. It made me still want to watch repeat episodes and 279 episodes there’s a lot of Big Bang to watch.

Watch the series finale of The Big Bang Theory on 9Now.
